Welcome to the first blog about Edmonton!
When it comes to professional sport leagues, Edmonton has two high profile teams. One of them, the Edmonton Eskimos, plays in the CFL (Canadian Football League). The logo for the Eskimos is about the “E” and shows that the team not only is called the Eskimos, but that it also comes from Edmonton. The team is well known as being linked with the community of Edmonton. Other Canadian football teams also include their city or province name within their logo.
Major League Baseball teams do a good job of linking the city name with an identifiable logo of the team. For example, the logo most used for the Red Sox is the “B”; for the Yankees is the “NY”; for the Dodgers is the “LA”; etc. I think you get the point. Without a doubt, these teams are linked to the community in which they play and represent, and
there is a sense of pride about the community the teams play in and within the community about the team that represents them.
The other high profile Edmonton team, the Edmonton Oilers, plays in the NHL (National Hockey League). The Oilers logo is only about the team name. The Oilers logo is okay, but would it not be good to have another Oilers logo that connects the team with the community of Edmonton in an identifiable way? Could an “E” logo be a helpful way to put Edmonton on the map for Edmontonians?
Which logo is your preference? Other ideas?
